The expectations for each individual in our performing groups are very high. Being a member of a performing ensemble demands a personal commitment form everyone involved, therefore, commitment is one of our expectations. We also expect to see positive development in the areas of performing ability and music theory, as well as personal growth in the areas of discipline, responsibility, dedication to the group(s) and the ability to work within the group to achieve common goals.
This expectation list has been created and distributed to NHS band students in order to more fully explain our program′s expectations for band performances. I anticipate this will help us all have better and more rewarding performances as we pursue musical excellence. As described in our grading policy, your performance grade constitutes 25% of your overall grade.
Chair placement auditions will occur during the month of October in all band classes. The Challenge system is intended as a way for students to move up their section′s chair placement order.
Defines the ground rules for the wear, appearance and handling of the Newport Band Uniform. With the new uniforms it is important to show proper respect to ensure they last well into the future.
This policy applies to both personally owned and school-maintained instruments. The policy defines proper respect for, and care of instruments.
This is pass/fail for most Symphonic Band members, graded A-F for Honors students
Honors activities enrich and extend the knowledge and experiences of high school music students.
This program will require students to practice, prepare and perform outside the regular school day.
